Local runners shine at Fast Cats Classic

Local runners shined at all levels — from middle school to college — as more than 1,000 athletes competed Saturday in the Fast Cats Classic at Yellow Creek Park. Read more for highlights of each race.

COLLEGE
The day started with Owensboro Catholic graduate and Centre College freshman Austin Stallings (25:19) dominating his way to a first-place finish in the men’s race.

Hunter Kurz (26:03) — a Daviess County grad and Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore — placed sixth. Wesleyan finished seventh as a team, while Brescia University placed 12th.

In the women’s college race, local grads Breanna Alderton (Owensboro) and Karlee Hoffman (Daviess County) finished fourth and seventh respectively for Kentucky Wesleyan. The Panthers took seventh as a team, while Brescia finished 13th.

HIGH SCHOOL
Daviess County took second in both the boys’ and girls’ high school events behind a small handful of top-10 finishers.

The boys were led by Brady Terry (6th, 16:16.34) and Alex Adams (7th, 16:22.92), while the girls were led by Emily Ann Roberts (3rd, 19:15.62), Emily Rempe (8th, 19:33.78) and Ainsley Taylor (9th, 19:44.21).

Owensboro Catholic’s John Cason (16:01.25) placed fifth and Owensboro’s Nathanael Turner (17:01.35) was 23rd for other top boys’ finishes, while the Alexandra Scheithe (20:40.50) finished 20th for the Lady Aces.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
Daviess County won both middle school races, with Burns finishing a close second in both events. College View was third among girls and fifth among boys, while Owensboro placed fourth and ninth, respectively.

Top 10 boys’ finishers were Nolan Kurz (1st, DCMS), Joshua Thomas (3rd, BMS), Camryn Edge (5th, DCMS), Emmit Brock (8th, BMS), Evan Howe (9th, DCMS) and Austin King (10th, BMS).

Top 10 girls’ finishers were Bentlei Stallings (1st, DCMS), Lucy Spaw (2nd, BMS), Sally Tidwell (3rd, DCMS), Ellie Girten (4th, DCMS), Kiley Palmer (5th, OMS), Lauren Clark (7th, DCMS), Blakely Greer (8th, BMS), Adyson Mattingly (9th, BMS) and Melanie Reesman (DCMS).
