Apollo’s Emma Workman announced that she will continue her bowling career at Kentucky Wesleyan College during a signing ceremony Wednesday evening at Diamond Lanes South.

The 2019-20 bowling season is already underway, and Workman will look to finish out her varsity career with another strong year. Last season, Workman captured the regional individual title, following it up with a fourth-place finish in the state tournament.

Workman said her time at Apollo has helped shape her as a person and an athlete.

“Without Apollo Bowling, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she said. “I’ve learned how to be a teammate and a friend. I’ve also learned how to improve my personal game through workouts and drills, and through my coaching course that I got certified in last year. High school was definitely a time where I was able to hit some great milestones.”

Apollo head coach Kerrie Gatton said Workman has steadily improved each year.

“Emma has worked extremely hard on her physical and mental game over the last couple of years and that hard work has paid off,” Gatton said. “Our Apollo Eagles are very proud of Emma and I expect her to fit in and do really well at KWC.”

Workman said it was an easy decision to sign with the Panthers.

“Coach Scott Thompson and the girls have welcomed me with open arms,” she said. “They have cheered me on with each milestone I have hit this past year. I love the team environment and camaraderie they have. Even more importantly, I picked Wesleyan for the great schooling and courses that are offered to me for my intended major.”

The Wesleyan bowling team is only entering its second year, but Workman said she is excited to be a part of an up-and-coming program.

“Not very many people have the opportunity to bowl at the NCAA level,” she said. “To be in this position means the world to me. Coach Scott saw something in me and my ability. He wanted me to be a part of the Panther family. It’s pretty incredible.”
