Saturday’s action:
• Catholic, DC to meet in tourney after losses
• OHS dominant in tournament finale
• Late rally not enough for Raiders
• Eagles drop 11th straight game


CATHOLIC, DC TO MEET IN TOURNEY AFTER LOSSES
Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County each suffered narrow losses, setting up a meeting between the two at 1 p.m. Sunday in the final round of competition in the Roy’s Bar-B-Que/1st Southern National Bank Classic at Logan County.

The Panthers (5-7) overcame a late deficit but eventually lost 39-32 in overtime to Grayson County. DC outscored Grayson County 8-2 in the fourth quarter but only scored one point in overtime. The Panthers got scoring from Ryan Thomson (8), Camron Johnson (7), Will Barron (6), Joe Humphreys (5), Hunter Gibson (4) and Bo Stratton (2).

Similarly, the Aces (5-5) made a late push but couldn’t hold on in a 60-55 loss to Hopkinsville. Catholic trailed by two after the first and second periods, but drew even at 45-all heading into the fourth. Brian Griffith led all scorers with 20 points, while other contributions for the Aces came from Ji Webb (14), Gray Weaver (9), Drew Hartz (7) and Andrew Riney (5).


OHS DOMINANT IN TOURNAMENT FINALE
Owensboro (8-5) ran away with their final game of the Purples Holiday Classic in Bowling Green, rolling to an 81-57 victory over North Hardin. Tied after the first quarter, the Red Devils took a 10-point lead into halftime and went up by 18 after the third period.

Gavin Wimsatt scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, while Jaiden Greathouse added 13 points and Ethan Pendleton had 10. Also scoring for OHS were Amari Wales (7), Reis Dickinson (7), Keyata Carbon (7), Isaac Humphrey (6), Cayman Powell (5), Matt Brown (5) and Tucker Hagan (5).


LATE RALLY NOT ENOUGH FOR RAIDERS
Trinity (4-8) scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Metcalfe County held on for a 67-62 victory in the final day of the Williamstown Holiday Tournament. Metcalfe County slowly built a 10-point lead by the end of the third quarter, then used 25 in the fourth to fend off the Raiders.

Trinity was led by 17 points from Brenden Wathen. Also scoring were Landon Hall (13), Denver Dickens (11), Landon Huff (10), Ethan Howard (6), Nathan Hernandez (3) and Will Edge (2).


EAGLES DROP 11th STRAIGHT GAME
Apollo (0-11) is still looking for their first win of the season after taking a 61-54 loss to Perry Central in the final day of the Perry-Spencer Classic at South Spencer, Ind.

The Eagles were led by 11 points from Jaden Kelly, while Malik Wilson and Harrison Bowman added 10 each. Also scoring were Landon Hamilton (9) Jamen Kinison (8), Dan St. Claire (3) and Cameron Frantz (3).
