Spencer Harvey scored a career high to help lead the Lady Aces, while four players for the boys’ team reached double figures as both Owensboro Catholic squads locked up spots in the 3rd Region All “A” Classic championship games.
The Catholic girls will take on Hancock County at 6:30 p.m. Monday, and the boys will play Trinity at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both title games will be played at Edmonson County.
GIRLS – Owensboro Catholic 55, Edmonson County 35
Harvey finished with a career-best 18 points, adding four steals and three rebounds to help the Lady Aces (11-5) shake a slow start and roll to a big semifinal win. Hannah McKay also scored 18 points and grabbed five boards.
Catholic struggled early and trailed 9-2 after the first quarter, but they took a 21-14 lead into halftime. After stretching the advantage to nine points in the third period, they put the game away with ease in the fourth.
Other scoring for the Lady Aces came from Catherine Head (8), Caroline Reid (2), Camille Conkright (2), Lauren Keelin (2), Kinsley Goetz (2), Isabella Henning (1), Madeline Hayden (1) and Ally Maggard (1).
BOYS – Owensboro Catholic 83, Edmonson County 58
Though they were in control from the start, the Aces (8-5) really put the game away with a dominant second half behind an impressive offensive showing. Catholic turned a 32-27 halftime lead into a 17-point advantage by the end of the third quarter then continued to pull away.
Brian Griffith led all scorers with 20 points, while the Aces also got double-digit scoring from Drew Hartz (19), Ji Webb (16) and Gray Weaver (15). Also contributing were Andrew Riney (4), Braden Mundy (4), Luke Scales (3) and Sam McFarland (2).
