Kassidy Daugherty scored 20 points and Apollo used a stout defense to pull away for a dominant 56-38 road victory over Ohio County on Thursday night.
Ohio County has only been held to fewer points twice this season — they’ve scored 36 two times, including once when Apollo won 50-36 at home.
The E-Gals (14-6) fell behind early in Thursday’s meeting, trailing 15-12 after the first quarter. Six players scored for Apollo in the second period as they used a balanced attack to go in front 32-26 by halftime.
Daugherty, Amaya Curry and Amber Dunn each scored four points in the second, while Shelbie Beatty and Addison Carter hit a 3-pointer each and Zoe Floyd knocked down two free throws.
Apollo continued to pull away in the second half, allowing only one made field goal by Ohio County in the third quarter and two baskets in the fourth.
The E-Gals had a strong night at the free throw line, hitting 21 of 26 attempts — Daugherty went 8-for-8 and Beatty went 4-for-4.
Other major contributors for Apollo were Dunn (9 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists) and Floyd (10 points, 7 rebounds). Curry finished with four points and three assists, while Carter had three points and six boards. Beatty added seven points and Kennedy Rowan scored three.
