The Daviess County boys’ bowling team is making another trip to the state championships after finishing runner-up in the Region 1 Tournament in Bowling Green on Saturday.
After DC earned the No. 4 seed for bracket play, they breezed to 3-0 wins over both Owensboro Catholic and Henderson County to set up an intense semifinal match against No. 1 seed Apollo.
The Panthers and Eagles split the first two games, tied in the third game, then split games four and five to set up a winner-take-all sixth game. DC won the final game 201-179, advancing to the championship match and earning an automatic bid to state.
South Warren swept DC 3-0 in the boys’ championship game.
The Apollo girls suffered a similar fate as the boys’ team, earning the No. 1 seed but falling in a five-set battle against Graves County in the semifinals. Apollo had a bye in the first round then easily swept Warren East 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Graves County went on to beat McCracken County to claim the girls’ championship.
The Owensboro and Daviess County girls each lost first-round matches.
