Apollo shook off a rough start Tuesday, using tight defense and a steady attack to throttle past Trinity in a convincing 80-40 home victory on senior night.

Lone senior Kennedy Rowan shined in the fourth quarter, knocking down four 3-pointers to finish the night with 12 points.

“Kennedy is the ultimate teammate,” said E-Gals head coach Natalie Payne. “In the classroom she gets it done, and she has grown so much as a person over the last four years. She brings us so much energy on the court each night, and I was so happy for her to log great minutes and knock down those shots tonight.”

The Lady Raiders were able to hang tough through the first quarter. With nine points from sophomore Cassidy Morris in the opening frame, Trinity found themselves tied at 13-all going into the second quarter.

“It was a little choppy in the first half, with a lot of fouls,” Payne said. “Credit to Trinity, because they are a good team. Those girls can play and Morris is able to put points on the board against any team in the region.”

From there, it was all Apollo. The E-Gals (16-6) held the Lady Raiders (8-14) to just six points in the second quarter, allowing them to open up a 15-point lead that they never relinquished.

Eleven different players scored for Apollo, who for the second game in a row set a new season high in points scored — they posted 76 in a win over Christian County on Saturday.

The E-Gals was led in scoring by Kassidy Daugherty, with 10 of her 17 points coming in the third quarter. Amber Dunn added 14, Amaya Curry scored 12 and Addison Carter finished with nine in a balanced effort.

Apollo returns to action Friday when they host Owensboro in a 9th District matchup. Trinity will play again Thursday when they travel to Hancock County.
