All sports and sport activities are in a dead period until April 12 as announced Friday morning by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

The KHSAA said the decision was made after consultation with Gov. Andy Beshear, public health officials and the Kentucky Department of Education. An evaluation will be made prior to April 11 for the period going forward.

“At this point, there are no plans to cancel state championship play in the spring sports and sport-activities of baseball, softball, tennis, track & field, archery, bass fishing or esports season 2, but that obviously merits consideration, even with potentially abbreviated seasons,” the KHSAA said in a news release. “There is also no current consideration to seeking alternate locations or dates for sports state championship play beyond the currently scheduled dates.”

Athletes cannot play, practice or train with their high school teams during the dead period.

Earlier Friday, the KHSAA cancelled spring football practice for all high school and middle school teams.
