With his continued success on the court, Altaf Merchant recently moved up to No. 14 in the world in the pickleball global rankings for men’s doubles.

Merchant, 46, is older than everyone ranked ahead of him. There are a pair of players in their 40s, with everyone else in their 20s and 30s.

Merchant competed in a pair of tournaments this year before the Professional Pickleball Association tour was put on hold due to the coronavirus.

Merchant and playing partner Jeffery Warnick finished sixth in the first PPA tournament of the year in early February in Mesa, Ariz. Later that month, Merchant and playing partner Dave Weinbach placed fifth in the Florida Grand Slam.

The PPA tour is scheduled to start back up in mid-August with the Showcase Slam in Newport Beach.
