I’m not sure how many times I was asked in the past month about my thoughts on high school sports in Kentucky this fall.

To say I was unsure would be an understatement. I went back and forth multiple times every day on if I thought it was actually going to happen.

Recently, people had voiced their concern on what they think the KHSAA Board of Control should do. To say Twitter and social media was in a frenzy would be accurate.

Some of the comments from people were irresponsible and things that shouldn’t have been said.

But, on Thursday, the BOC made the decision to continue with Option 1 and go on with the plan with which they began the day.

Practices are scheduled to begin Monday, with competition starting Sept. 7.

The ball now falls into the court of the Department of Education, Department of Public Safety and the governor, as they can have the ability to make a final decision.

Before the meeting was even close to being over, people again took to Twitter — not to thank the KHSAA for their decision but attack Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and the other entities.

It’s clear that people are looking for something to complain about. Instead of talking about the kids they fought so hard for, they take the opportunity to go after someone else.

Savor the moment.

Could any of those three beings end things for everyone? Yes, they most definitely could.

Do I think they will? No. Beshear and the KHSAA have been in communication so I have to think he had some inkling of what would come down the pipeline Thursday.

But again, no matter the decision, people will still find something to complain about. As of now, fall sports are a go, so let’s just be thankful for that.

I also want to give a shoutout to Julian Tackett. I, along with media from around the state — and yes, even the faithful public — have had things to say about Tackett from time to time. But after his opening Thursday, Tackett made it clear he’s about the kids.

Tackett bobbed and weaved through his opening statement taking punches and dishing them right back. I commend Tackett for giving it straight.

Lastly, let’s just remember to be positive. As of now, fall sports can continue as planned. Let’s think about the student-athletes that’ll get their hard work rewarded.
