Daviess County leads locals at Union County

Three area boys’ golf teams hit the course Monday at Breckinridge Golf Course in Morganfield, with Daviess County leading the way with a second-place finish.

The Panthers’ A team carded a 325 and were led by Gabe Vincent (80), Nick Johnson (81), Dawson Lamb (81) and Grant Broughton (83).

Muhlenberg County won the event with a 316, while Webster County’s Grant Puckett took medalist honors with a 73.

The Daviess County B team shot a 366 with Jayden Lanham (82), Hunter Smith (88) and Grayson Powers (89) returning solid scores for the Panthers.

The Owensboro Red Devils shot a 368 and were led by James Rhineburger’s 82. Will Rickard (91) and Cole Crews (95) also shot below 100 for the OHS.

Owensboro Catholic only had three players competing, with Sam Mitchell leading the way after he shot a 95.

Apollo’s Brown continues strong play at Lady Gator Invitational

Apollo’s Macey Brown fired a 72 to tie for fourth place Monday at the Lady Gator Invitational at Bowling Green Country Club.

Brown went 36-36 as the leader carded a 67 for the title, but that didn’t stop Brown from holding her own with some of the top players in the state.

The Apollo standout had three birdies on the back nine and finished with a par on No. 18 to shoot even for the tournament.
