DC’s Nick Johnson leads Panthers

Daviess County’s Nick Johnson paced the Panthers with a 35 as DCHS won Monday’s match against local schools plus Hancock County by 10 shots.

The Panthers shot a 153 and had the top two spots with Grant Broughton carding a 37. DC delivered four solid scores as Braden Whistle (40) and Jayden Lanham (41) also turned in good rounds.

Owensboro Catholic was led by Reece Higdon’s 39 as the Aces shot a 163. Jakob Wellman (41), JT Payne (41) and Griffin Payne (42) also helped OCHS to a runner-up finish.

Apollo finished third with a 183 and were led by Ethan Dych’s 42. Nathan Payne (45), Trevor Cecil (46) and Tanner Klee (50) also competed for the Eagles.

Owensboro (189) finished fourth overall as James Rhineburger carded a 44 to led the Red Devils. The rest of OHS’ scoring came from Will Rickard (46), Will Hume (47) and Noah Newton (52).

Hancock County finished fifth with a 193.

Apollo’s Macey Brown shoots at 75 at Bluegrass Invitational

Apollo sent two individuals to the Bluegrass Invitational Saturday at Heritage Hills in Shepherdsville, where Macey Brown finished with a 75 for a tie for fourth place.

Brown double-bogeyed the first hole and rebounded to shoot a 2-over on the front nine. A 37 on the back in a downpour gave her a 75 as Ashland Blazer’s Kate Hanni won the event with a 70.

Marshall County’s Trinity Bech and Megan Hertter each shot a 72 for a tie for second.

Mary Ann Lyons shot a 92 for Apollo.
