The Kentucky Board of Education has scheduled a video teleconference for 11 a.m. Friday to discuss several items pertaining to fall sports.

A week ago, the KHSAA Board of Control approved Option 1 by a 16-2 vote to start official practice on Monday with games beginning Sept. 7. Then on Monday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he would not overturn that decision.

Teams around the state started practice Monday with many holding tryouts as the week went on.

On Wednesday evening, WPSD-TV’s Adam Wells reported he had a source that stated the Board of Education would be meeting to discuss sports. A short time later, the board released the agenda for Friday’s meeting.

KBE Chair Lu Young will make her opening remarks then the agenda goes as follows:

  • Discussion of the KHSAA Board of Control’s Aug. 20 decision to begin high school interscholastic sports – Commissioner Julian Tackett
  • Discussion of district concerns about the safety of high contact fall sports – local superintendents
  • Discussion of the Kentucky Department for Public Health Covid-19 guidance and recommendations – Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack
  • Discussion and possible action to authorize the KDE to develop written communication to be issued to the KHSAA BOC by KBE Chair Young on behalf of the KBE urging additional consideration of alternative options for high contact fall sports – KBE members
