Football teams around the state will hit the field Friday as the 2020 fall season gets underway.

This is our final story in a series previewing the upcoming football season. The Owensboro Catholic Aces are the last story in the series.

The Owensboro Catholic Aces have been through a lot this offseason and coach Jason Morris his team is ready to show how much resolve they have.

The Aces finished 9-3 last season with two of those losses coming to local teams (Owensboro, Apollo) and the final coming against McLean County in the second round of the KHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs.

OCHS graduated it’s quarterback, top rusher and top receiver from a year ago but Morris and his squad knows it’s time for other players to step up.

Catholic graduated standout Drew Hartz as he threw for more than 4,000 yards with 57 touchdowns to just five interceptions last season. The starting quarterback job now moves into the hands of junior Lincoln Clancy.

Braden Mundy returns for his senior year as an Ace as he’ll look to replace the production of Hagan Edge from last season. Mundy hauled in 54 catches for 1,080 yards and nine scores during his junior campaign.

On defense, Christopher Boarman will anchor the Ace defense. Boarman had 171 total tackles, 22 TFL and 7.5 sacks last season to led the team in all three categories.

What is something you’ve noticed your team needs to work on?
We need to continue to perfect the small details of our fundamentals at all positions.

What do you need to do to be successful?
We have to win the turnover battle and play good gap sound defense.

How has COVID-19 changed the way you prepared for the season?
COVID-19 has definitely changed the way we prepare for the season. We have focused on our conditioning more than ever and plan to game plan around wearing our opponents down.
