The 2020 soccer season was a sprint for teams around the state as district tournaments are set to begin today.

The 9th District Girls’ Tournament gets underway tonight at 5:30 p.m. with Daviess County and Apollo, while the boys’ tournament starts at 7:30 p.m. with Daviess County and Owensboro.

On Tuesday, the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces take on Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. while across town the Apollo Eagles take on Catholic at 7:30 p.m.

Monday
GSOC (at Shifley Park): Daviess County (5-4-2) v Apollo (3-7-0) , 5:30 p.m.

The Daviess County Lady Panthers are the only district squad with a record over .500 this season as they take on Apollo in the opening game of tonight’s 9th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament at Shifley Park.

DC won the only matchup this year, 8-0.

The Lady Panthers didn’t win back-to-back games at any point this season but a win Monday will give them that for the first time. Apollo comes into the district tourney on a three-match losing streak.

Avery McNeily has been on a tear as of late for DC and has 8 goals and 4 assists this season. Steeley Walker is right behind her with 7 goals, while senior Mackenzie Sweatt leads the team with 5 assists.

Caitlyn Blandford leads the E-Gals this season in goals with 8 while Alyssa Lawrence has chipped in 4. Lawrence and Alana Rone each have 3 assists.

BSOC (at Apollo): Daviess County (8-2-4) v Owensboro (1-8-5), 7:30 p.m.

The top-seeded Daviess County Panthers take on Owensboro in the first game of the boys’ 9th District Tournament tonight at Apollo.

The Panthers went undefeated in the 3rd Region and in the 9th District this season as they finished 8-2-4 overall, while Owensboro finished 1-8-5 with the Red Devils’ lone win coming against Ohio County.

DC won the only meeting between the two teams this season 1-0 back on Sept. 10 — each team’s second game of the season.

Hunter Clark has led DC offensively with 12 goals and 7 assists while Declan Armistead has 9 goals and 5 assists to sit at second on the team. Cody Clark has allowed 11 goals in the net this season.

Hser Thaw (7 goals) and Saw Thaw (4 goals) have led the Red Devil offense this season.

Tuesday
GSOC (at Shifley Park): Owensboro Catholic (4-7-1) v Owensboro (3-3-3), 5:30 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic just beat Owensboro a little more than a week ago but the Lady Devils are hoping for a different result when the two meet Tuesday.

The Lady Aces took down Owensboro 10-1 with a big day from Maddie Hayden. For the Lady Devils, it was just their second game back after missing a few weeks due to COVID-19 protocols.

Hayden leads the Lady Aces with 13 goals and 8 assists, while Ashton Logsdon has added 10 goals and 7 assists this season. Catholic has tallied 45 goals and 38 assists this season.

Rylee Cox has led the Lady Devils in scoring with 7 goals this season while Ella Bratcher and Ella Mays have each added 3 assists.

BSOC (at Apollo): Apollo (7-4-1) v Owensboro Catholic (8-2), 7:30 p.m.

Apollo and Owensboro Catholic meet in the second semifinal on Tuesday when the Aces will try for some revenge, as the Eagles won in a shootout earlier this season.

The Eagles are 7-4-1 this season, winners of four of their last five coming into the district tournament. The Aces finished 8-2 this season as their only losses this season came against district opponents.

Harrison Bowman has led Apollo this season with 10 goals and 9 assists while Teranse Twijenya (6 goals, 8 assists) and Eh Wah (6 goals, 3 assists) have also had solid campaigns.

Catholic freshman Brody Martin leads the Aces with 15 goals this season and Luke Hagedorn has added 9 goals. Senior Joe Fusco is third on the team with 7 goals but leads the squad with 9 assists. Caleb Ranallo has allowed 9 goals this season and has 5 shutouts.
