The Apollo E-gals were the only local team to hit the court Saturday as they grabbed a win over Paducah Tilghman to put their winning streak at three matches heading into this week’s 9th District Tournament.

Apollo took care of business against the Blue Tornado 3-1 (25-8, 25-21, 25-27, 25-14) to end the regular season at 16-6.

E-gals coach MaryAnne Howard said it’s huge to go into the district tournament on a high note.

“We talked all week about just trying to get in a good rhythm and have a lot of momentum going into the tournament because with the teams this year, anybody can win,” she said. “Momentum is going to play a big part in that.”

Apollo took care of business in the first two sets but Tilghman wasn’t ready to head back home just yet as they took the third set 27-25.

The E-gals gathered themselves and cruised to a 25-14 win in fourth set to take the victory.

“I like how we finished off today,” she said. “Paducah Tilghman, they did a lot of good things and it was a good match.”

Havanah John led the way with 14 kills while Maddie Boswell (11 kills, bloc, ace, 4 digs), Brylee Rhodes (6 kills, 2 blocks, 5 aces), Aliyah Carwile (6 kills, 2 blocks), Tallie Satterfield (3 kills, 2 blocks), Allie Hargitt (36 assists, 6 digs), Anslee Hopewell (22 digs), Abby Spong (12 digs) and Camryn Kerwich (10 digs) all had solid games for the E-gals.

Since going 2-2 at the Quad State Tournament at McCracken County at the beginning of the month, Apollo is 6-1 with three sweeps.

Howard said it’s always good to be clicking at the right time.

“We’ve just really settled in and I think we have a good flow on the floor, a good chemistry in our lineup,” she said. “I think our hitters are really starting to find their rhythm and getting on top of the ball. That’s something I think has developed over the season.”

Apollo plays at 5:30 p.m. Monday against Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the 9th District Volleyball Tournament.
