After a 16-7 finish this season, Apollo E-gal volleyball coach Mary Howard was named the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association 3rd Region Coach of the Year on Friday.

“Being named the 2020 Region 3 Volleyball Coach of the Year is a tremendous honor,” Howard said in DCPS press release. “It truly means a lot to receive this honor after the many challenges that the 2020 season has presented. It would not have been possible this year without my assistant coaches, Taylor Howard and Katherine Porter; and the overwhelming support of my husband Alan Howard and children, Sidney and Lucas.”

Apollo athletic director Dan Crume said Howard personifies what it means to be a coach.

“Coach Howard does an outstanding job with the volleyball program,” he said in the release. “More importantly, Mary always demonstrates the ‘Kids First’ philosophy of the Daviess County Public Schools district. She always has the student-athletes’ best interests at heart in all that she does.”
