Area teams ready for 3rd Region VB Tournament at Grayson County

Three local teams will hit the court at Grayson County this week as the 3rd Region Volleyball Tournament gets underway.

Owensboro Catholic plays Monday against Grayson County while Trinity plays Breckinridge County and Daviess County takes on Muhlenberg County on Tuesday.

Monday
Owensboro Catholic v Grayson County, 8 p.m.

The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces went into last week’s 9th District Tournament as the fourth seed but after taking down Apollo in their first game of the tourney, Catholic finds itself back in the 3rd Region Tournament.

The Lady Aces are 7-11 this season as they’ll take on the region’s top team, according to RPI, in the Lady Cougars of Grayson County.

Grayson is 19-3 this season and 17-3 in region play as they beat Catholic 3-1 in their lone meeting this season.

Ella Robinson (374 kills) and Chloe Cox (244 kills) led the Lady Cougars in kills while Brieanna Boll has dished out 565 assists this season. Bailey Richardson (373 digs) and Robinson (224 digs) have led GC on the defensive end.

Madeline Castlen (160 kills) and Cate Sights (146 kills) are the lone Lady Aces with more than 100 kills while Kennedy Murphy leads the team with 298 assists while Lilly Farmer has dished out 193 assists. Jenna Glenn leads the team with 309 digs.

Owensboro Catholic and Grayson County start at 8 p.m. tonight.

Tuesday
Trinity v Breckinridge County, 5:30 p.m.

The Trinity Lady Raiders fell 3-0 to Breckinridge County in the second match of the season but a lot has changed since Sept. 10 for both teams.

THS enters the 3rd Region Tournament with a record of 10-10 while Breckinridge is 12-6 on the year.

For the Lady Tigers, Audrey Whitworth (134 kills) and Natalie Henning (124 kills) have led the team while Emily Carwile has 233 assists this season. Darrian Flood has also helped Carwile in the passing game as she has 163 assists. Whitworth also leads the team in digs with 256.

For the Lady Raiders, Hannah Nash (218 kills), Jenna McDowell (120 kills) and Georgia Howard (106 kills) have led THS offensively while Josie Aull has 401 of the 455 Trinity assists this season.

The Lady Raiders have 1,002 digs on the season with Taylor Pedley leading the way with 325. Abigail Payne (183), Howard (169), Bailey Millay (131) and Aull (103) have led the team in digs.

Trinity and Breckinridge County hit the court at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Daviess County v Muhlenberg County, 8 p.m.

The Daviess County Lady Panthers are 11-3 this season and winners of three-straight matches after dropping back-to-back matches to Breckinridge County and Apollo.

DC is second in the region with an RPI of .622 while Muhlenberg County is near the middle of the pack with a record of 7-8 and an RPI of .506.

The Mustangs are led by Daisy Ritchie and her 186 kills while Sophy Fields leads the team with 183 assists. Ritchie is second on the team with 110 assists. Brooklin Engler has 205 digs while Ritchie (123) and Maddy Cary (123) have also had solid defensive seasons for Muhlenberg.

Elizabeth Moore has led DC with 237 kills while Josie Newcom (128) and Adylan Ayer (107) have also helped Tyla Bailey’s squad on the offensive end.

Ryann Keller leads the team with 346 assists while Lexi Owen has dished out 179 assists.

Kloee Phelps leads four Lady Panthers with at least 100 digs as she leads the team with 191. Kendal Goetz (163), Moore (139) and Newcom (101) also have big numbers for the Panthers.

Daviess County and Muhlenberg County hit the court at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
