Football Gameday Guide: Week 8

For the second week in a row, a City-County matchup will light up Friday night as Owensboro Catholic heads to Apollo. Owensboro has its final regular-season game as the Red Devils host Breckinridge County with Daviess County hitting the road to take on the Raiders of Warren East.

Daviess County at Warren East

The Daviess County Panthers head into Week 8 with a three-game losing streak but coach Matt Brannon and his squad are ready to right their wrongs against the Warren East Raiders tonight.

DC fell in a 40-34 thriller to rival Apollo last week but the Panther offense got stronger as the game went on.

Joe Humphreys is leading Class 6A is passing yards per game at 230.8 as he has 1,154 yards on the season with 14 touchdowns and just one interception. On the ground, Humphreys has 317 yards and six touchdowns.

Panther running back Bryson Parm is leading DC at 818 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Through the air, Decker Renfrow leads all Panthers with 24 catches for 380 yards and seven touchdowns while Max Dees (19 catches, 234 yards, 2 touchdowns), Luke Floyd (16 catches, 208 yards, 2 touchdowns), Carter Hamilton (12 catches, 298 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Isaiah Tomes (12 catches, 157 yards, touchdown) have hauled in most of Humphreys’ completions this season.

Gunnar Evans (79 tackles, 2 sacks) and Parker Crews (73 tackles, 2 TFL) have led the Panther defense as they’ve forced 10 takeaways (7 fumbles, 3 interceptions) this season.

Warren East comes into the matchup at 2-4 after back-to-back losses to Allen County-Scottsville and Franklin-Simpson.

Nolan Ford is the Raiders’ leading passer with 464 yards and six touchdowns this season while he also has one pick. KJ Alexander leads WE in rushing with 355 yards and six touchdowns while Tray Price (170 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Isaiah Ghee (140 yards, touchdown) have also hit the century mark in rushing.

DeSean Gilbert (16 catches, 301 yards, 5 touchdowns), Tray Price (18 catches, 275 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Simon Ghee (6 catches, 117 yards, touchdown) have been Ford’s favorite targets this season.

Maddox Tarrence leads the team with 47 tackles.

Daviess County and Warren east hit the field at 7 p.m. in Bowling Green.

Breckinridge County at Owensboro

The Owensboro Red Devils are going for a perfect regular-season tonight as they host Breckinridge County at Rash Stadium.

The Red Devils are 8-0 this season as the matchup with Breck was moved a week with the Henderson County matchup being canceled because of HC’s red status.

Owensboro has won every game except one by double digits this season as the Red Devils have outscored their opponents 315-89 this season.

Junior standout Gavin Wimsatt continues to lead the Red Devil offense as he has 1,371 yards with 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions this year. Wimsatt has also ran for 287 yards and five touchdowns.

Ethan Avery has lead OHS with 526 rushing yards this season to go with eight touchdowns.

The Red Devils have five receivers with at least 100 yards as Ben Flaherty (330 yards, 4 touchdowns), Steven Stevenson (318 yards, touchdown), Treyvon Tinsley (291 yards, 5 touchdowns), Khalil Rogers (220 yards, touchdown) and Avery (131 yards, 2 touchdowns) have helped the OHS offense stay balanced this season.

Austin Gough leads the way with 75 tackles while the Red Devil defense has forced 14 turnovers (7 interceptions, 7 fumbles) this season.

Breck comes into the matchup at 3-3 as the Tigers are coming off of a 20-19 victory over Ohio County.

Kiyren Watkins leads the Tigers in passing with 584 yards and seven touchdowns with two interceptions but he also has 373 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Michael Johnson leads the team with 476 and five rushing touchdowns while Dayston Watkins is also over the century mark with 194 yards and two touchdowns.

Zion Breeze has 195 receiving and four touchdowns while James Spitzer (133 yards, touchdown) and Eric Barr (130 yards, touchdown) also have hauled in at least 10 catches for the Tigers.

Austin Medley has dominated the Breck defense with 103 tackles this season.

Owensboro goes for 9-0 at 7 p.m. tonight against Breck at Rash Stadium.
