The Daviess County Lady Panthers haven’t had the season they expected in terms of wins and losses but the end goal is always the same and with a win Monday, DC is back in the 9th District Tournament final and the 3rd Region Tournament next week.

The Lady Panthers cruised to a 5-0 win over Apollo to improve to 6-4-2 this season ahead of a Thursday matchup with the winner of today’s game between Owensboro Catholic and Owensboro.

Junior Steeley Walker led the way with two goals for DC while Avery McNeiley, Reagan Chinn and Bailey Porter also found the back of the net.

DC turned a 2-0 lead at the break into a 5-0 lead at the end of the game but the offense in the second half came a little more naturally.

Walker said in the first half, her team was missing the want that they usually have.

“We just scrapped it out like we needed to and we’re just going through it the best we can,” she said.

Despite their success in recent years, Walker said the Lady Panthers didn’t look ahead to Thursday as they knew they had to focus on the task at hand in the E-gals.

Walker said there’s been one thing keeping them together this season.

“It’s really positivity throughout our team,” she said. “We’re a really close team. We like to bring each other up and talk to each other on and off the field.”

Apollo ends the season at 3-8 but it was three more wins than the program had last year as the E-gals graduate their leading scoring in Caitlyn Blandford. The senior finished with eight goals in her final prep season.

Daviess County now prepares for Thursday as it’s already taken down both possible opponents this season. The Lady Panthers beat Catholic 1-0 earlier this month and took down Owensboro 4-1 last week.

The Lady Panthers play the winner of Catholic/Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 9th District Tournament title at Shifley Park.
