Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic have become fixtures in the 9th District Tournament girls’ final as this is the seventh-straight year the two teams are meeting in the final with the Lady Panthers grabbing four of the six victories in the final, including the last four.

Nearly two weeks ago, the Lady Panthers and Aces battled for 80 minutes but it was Daviess County that emerged victorious after Avery McNeiley found the back of the net in the 1-0 DC win.

McNeiley and junior Steeley Walker are tied for the team lead with 9 goals this season as McNeiley has led the way with 6 assists.

The Lady Panthers have scored 24 goals this season and given up 21.

Catholic has netted 47 goals this season and given up 37 while Maddie Hayden is leading the way with 14 goals and 8 assists.

Both teams are already through to next week’s 3rd Region Tournament as they’ll be joined by Ohio County, McLean County, Meade County and Grayson County.

The Daviess County Panthers haven’t missed a district tournament title match since 2000 as they’re going for yet another 9th District championship tonight at Apollo but the host Eagles have already made history once this week with their first district final since 2008.

The Panthers won the only meeting between the two teams this season 5-1 back on Sept. 17.

In that game, five different DC players scored goals as Tanner Anderson, Sean Higgs and Declan Armistead each finished with a goal and an assist.

Harrison Bowman scored the lone goal for the Eagles in the matchup as Eh Wah had the assist.

Bowman leads the Eagles in goals with 11 and assists with 10 this season.

For the Panthers, they also have one player leading both categories as senior Hunter Clark has 13 goals and 8 assists.

DC and Apollo will head to Muhlenberg County next week for the 3rd Region Tournament as they’ll be joined by Ohio County, Meade County, Grayson County and the host Mustangs.
