As week five approaches, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic continue to be the only local schools ranked in their respective classes, which makes Friday’s meeting at Steele Stadium even bigger than usual.
In Class 5A, Owensboro comes in at No. 5 as the Red Devils were tied for fourth a week ago with Frederick Douglass. Covington Catholic continued to lead the class as it received 10-of-15 first-place votes. South Warren (2nd), Douglass (3rd) and Bowling Green (4th) make up the rest of the top five.
In Class 2A, the Aces stay steady at No. 6 as there was some shuffling in the top five. Somerset stayed in the top spot with 12-of-15 votes while Lexington Christian County came in at No. 2. Breathitt County (3rd), Mayfield (4th) and Beechwood (5th) are also ahead of Catholic.
