The Daviess County Panthers took down McCracken County 5-0 in the season opener back on Sept. 7 but coach Doug Sandifer knows that was a long time ago as the two meet again this afternoon at McCracken County for the first round of the KHSAA State Boys’ Soccer Tournament.

The Mustangs finished the regular season at 11-2-3 with their only other loss coming against South Warren as Spartans lie in wait to play the winner on Monday after the 2nd Region winner, Henderson County, has to quarantine.

McCracken has won four-straight games as they took down Marshall County 2-0 in the 1st Region final on Thursday.

Caleb Madison leads the Mustangs with 10 goals this season as he and Dylan Deweese lead the team with five assists.

Hunter Clark leads a trio of Panthers with double-digit goals this season as the senior has 20 and 14 assists in his final campaign. Tanner Anderson (15 goals) and Declan Armistead (13 goals) are also near the top for DC.

Daviess County and McCracken County get underway at 4 p.m.

Girls’ Soccer
Semi-state: Owensboro Catholic at Marshall County, 4 p.m.

After missing out on the KHSAA State Girls’ Soccer Tournament in 2019, the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces are back as they head to Marshall County for their first semi-state game.

The Lady Marshals finished the regular season at 11-2-2 after they beat Murray 3-2 in the 1st Region final on Thursday. The winner of Saturday’s game will take on the winner of Madisonville-North Hopkins/Greenwood on Monday.

Kelsey Crass (13 goals, 6 assists) and Kallen Fuller (10 goals, 6 assists) lead the Lady Marshals as they’ve only allowed 13 goals on the season.
