Tears were shed, legends were honored and a 50th anniversary season was commemorated on Sunday evening at Windy Hollow Speedway. Windy Hollow is celebrating its 50th season in 2020, but the 50th-anniversary marquis event was “50th night” at Windy Hollow Speedway.
Familiar faces and legendary figures were recognized in the opening ceremonies. A longtime racer and figure at Windy Hollow Speedway, the late Jug Cauley was honored with Jug Cauley corner. Historic racing media member, Eldon Butcher was recognized with the Eldon Butcher Breezeway. Peggy Ratliff Boulevard was also dedicated on Sunday, for Ratliff’s years of dedication to the local racing scene with the NASCAR Pitstop trailer.
The management of Windy Hollow Speedway also inducted the first class of the legends of Windy Hollow. The 2020 inductees included track founders, Hal and Deanna Miller (Owensboro, KY); Russell Rudd (Owensboro, KY); Ricky Rudd (Owensboro, KY); Wayne Coakley (Sacramento, KY); Gerald and RC Coakley (Mclean County, KY); Ronnie Jones (Owensboro, KY); Richard Hill (Owensboro, KY); Henry Kempf (Owensboro, KY/Tell City, IN); Charlie Greenwell (Owensboro, KY); and Maxie Colyer (Daviess County, KY). All of these legends have made a lasting impact on the 50 years of Windy Hollow Speedway.
Race fans were also treated to a great night of racing, while the drivers were treated with extra purse money in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the speedway. Over 50 cars tackled the 3/8 mile D-shaped oval in the cruiser division, bomber division, mini-stock division, rusty-bolt division, and the scrapper division. Results are as follows
