South Warren 58, Apollo 45

The Apollo Eagles couldn’t rebound after Friday’s loss to Webster County as they fell Saturday to South Warren at home.

The Spartans used a big third quarter to take down the Eagles 58-45.

Apollo had a trio finish in double figures with Landon Hamilton leading the way with 18 points.

Cameron Frantz (12 points) and Dan St. Clair (11 points) also finished in double digits for the Eagles.

Apollo will look to write the ship after back-to-back losses when they host Grayson County Monday.

Trinity 67, Cloverport 34

The Trinity Raiders used a loss Friday as fuel when they went into the Owensboro Sportscenter Saturday afternoon and cruised by Cloverport in the Agrigold Winter Classic.

The Raiders took the game 67-34 behind 22 points from Denver Dickens.

THS coach Nathan West was happy with how his team bounced back.

“It’s shows me that they’re resilient,” he said. “But I think we probably still were thinking about that game a little bit, especially in the first quarter. We got off to a really slow start but they have the ability. I still saw a lot of rust. It’s just one of those things where being in quarantine for two weeks, it’s going to take some time and we haven’t had a practice since that started. I’m just glad we’re playing again because they’re getting game experience because that’s always different that practice experience.”

Cloverport scored the first point of the game on a free throw but after that it was all Trinity as they led the Aces 20-11 after the first quarter and then held Cloverport to just two points in the second quarter for a 38-13 lead at the break.

Trinity continued their offensive onslaught in the second half as they never wavered in the victory and got many players time on the court and when one of those players scored, several varsity players were on their feet cheering their teammates on.

“That’s one of the good things about Whitesville,” he said. “It’s a small community, everybody knows everybody. A lot of these guys were in that situation too … Those guys played up, they’re used to that kind of stuff. They’re used to the guys before them supporting them and so they just carry it on.”

Landon Huff also finished in double digits with 17 points for the Raiders.

Trinity starts a three-game road trip Monday as the Raiders take on Meade County. THS returns home Jan. 29 to take on Butler County.

Daviess County 62, Evansville Reitz 52

The Daviess County Lady Panthers bounced back after Friday’s loss to Owensboro when they went across the border and took down Evansville Reitz.

DC was down by 14 at one point during the game and battled back for the 62-52 victory.

Four DC players finished in double digits in the game as it was a team effort from the Lady Panthers.

Adylan Ayer continued her strong play Friday into Saturday as she and Katie Mewes led the Lady Panthers with 16 points a piece. Ella Payne (14 points) and Brooklyn Daugherty (12 points) also delivered solid performances for DC.

The Lady Panthers sit at 4-1 as they continue their road trip Monday at Grayson County.

Trinity 58, Cloverport 47

Like the boys’ squad, the Trinity Lady Raiders got redemption from Friday night’s loss to Edmonson County as they took down Cloverport in the Agrigold Winter Classic Saturday at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The 58-47 win over the Lady Aces gave Trinity its first win of the season.

Cassidy Morris led all scorers with 26 points and 12 rebounds as she also went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Josie Aull orchestrated the Lady Raiders offense throughout the game as she finished with 13 points and 3 assists. Kenzie McDowell added 7 points and 7 rebounds while Katherine Hibbitt had 4 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
