Owensboro Catholic 77, Central Hardin 68

The Owensboro Catholic Aces extended their perfect start to the season Monday as they’re not 6-0 but the win was memorable for another reason for OC coach Tim Riley.

With the 77-68 victory over Central Hardin, Riley eclipsed the 500-win mark as a head coach.

While Riley was unsure of when he first win was, he said he’s had a lot of great players with that being the best part of his career.

“The most important thing is the relationships that I have built over time,” he said.

To get No. 500 for Riley, the Aces got two more big performances from Brian Griffith and Ji Webb.

Griffith finished with 29 points after going 15-of-19 from the charity stripe while Webb poured in 22 points, including 10 in the opener quarter.

The Aces held a steady lead throughout the contest with Griffith putting the game away at the free-throw line in the closing minutes.

With the win, Catholic starts the season 6-0 for the second time in three seasons as they started the 2018-19 campaign at 7-0.

The Aces will go for their seventh-straight win tonight as they host Union County. Catholic continues its homestand Friday as it hosts Bosse at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Webster County 57, Apollo 53

The Webster County Lady Trojans got revenge on Apollo Monday as the E-gals down Webster in the season opener but the Trojans were able to get a close victory in Dixon.

Apollo led at the half but Webster County turned in up in the final 16:00 for the 57-53 victory to put the E-gals at 2-3 on the year.

AHS only had six players available for the game as three E-gals finished in double figures.

Amaya Curry led Apollo with 14 points while Kassidy Daugherty added 11 points and Addison Carter finished with 10 points.

Webster County’s Raigan Price led all scorers with 21 points while Brooklyn Clark (15 points) and Adeline McDyer (10 points) also finished in double digits for the Trojans.

Apollo will attempt to get back to .500 Thursday as they host Ohio County.

Hopkinsville 57, Daviess County 55

The Daviess County Lady Panthers had a nine-point lead heading to the fourth against Hopkinsville Monday but the Lady Tigers gave their home fans something to cheer for in the final frame.

Hoptown outscored DC 15-4 in the final frame to grab the 57-55 victory over the Panthers.

Daviess County trailed 15-12 after the first quarter but using eight of Lily Hoagland’s 13 points, carried a 31-28 lead at the break before the Lady Tigers started their comeback.

Adylan Ayer led Daviess in scoring with 15 points.

Daviess County continues its road trip tonight as they take on Grayson County in Leitchfield. The Lady Panthers return home Jan. 25 against Whitesville Trinity.

Owensboro Catholic 68, Ohio County 47

After a two-week hiatus, the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces finally hit the court Monday as they took down Ohio County on the road.

The Lady Aces cruised to the 68-47 win over the Lady Eagles but coach Michael Robertson said there was some obvious rust after being off.

“Sloppy for our first night back but we still executed,” he said. “We did a lot of good things,”

Catholic’s Catherine Head led all scorers with 26 points as she hit five of the Lady Aces’ nine 3-pointers in the game.

Kinsley Goetz also finished in double figures with 10 points, including six in the final frame.

Rain Embry led the Lady Eagles with 19 points with Kelsey Kennedy (11 points) and Adie Bullock (11 points) also chipping in for Ohio County.

Catholic (2-0) will look to keep its momentum when it travels to Madisonville-North Hopkins Thursday for a date with the Lady Maroons.
