South Warren 52, Daviess County 49
The Daviess County Panthers had chances to grab the win last Saturday afternoon but the visiting South Warren Spartans had other plans.
After the game was tied 22-22 at the break, South Warren kept a lead throughout the second half and held on for the 52-49 win as it was the Panthers’ first game in two weeks due to quarantine.
DC coach Neil Hayden said he was just ready for his team to see the court.
“These guys signed up to play and I signed up to coach them,” he said. “They’re a great group of guys to be around. I’m happy that they got a chance to play and the scrap and fight … We’ve got to figure out how to close out.”
South Warren carried a 13-11 lead after one before the game was tied going into the break. The Spartans then went on a run to start the third and led 41-33 going into the final frame.
Daviess County had multiple chances in the final few minutes to tie the game or take the lead but it wasn’t in the cards for the Panthers.
Isaiah Tomes led DC with 13 points while Joe Humphreys (12 points) and Jack Payne (10 points) also finished in double figures.
The Panthers play at McLean County Tuesday before hosting 9th District foe Apollo on Friday.
University Heights Academy 75, Owensboro Catholic 68
The Owensboro Catholic Aces were dealt their second loss of the year Saturday when they hit the road to take on the University Heights Academy Blazers.
UHA won the matchup 75-68 despite 30 points from Ace junior Brian Griffith.
The Blazers led after every quarter in the matchup as UHA kept their lead most of the game.
Ji Webb also finished in double digits for the Aces with 13 points.
In the loss, Griffith became just the 12th player in Catholic boys basketball history to hit the 1,000-point plateau.
The Aces welcome Evansville Bosse to the Owensboro Sportscenter on Wednesday.
Trinity 64, Hopkins County Central 60
The Trinity Raiders snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday when they hit the road and weathered the Hopkins County Central Storm.
Trinity held HCC at bay in the 64-60 win to put them at 2-5 on the year.
Landon Smith led the way with 19 points while Landon Huff (18 points) and Denver Dickens (14 points) also had big games for the Raiders.
Smith was big in crunch time for Trinity as he pulled down multiple rebounds in the closing minutes.
The Raiders continue their road trip Tuesday at Ohio County.

Calloway County 34, Owensboro 32
The Owensboro Lady Devils gave it all they had against 1st Region foe Calloway County Saturday at OHS but the visiting team had a little more in the tank when the final buzzer sounded.
The Lady Lakers won the game 34-32 as Lyric Lawrence led OHS with 8 points in the loss.
“We didn’t hit enough shots down the stretch to win, but I thought defensively we played really well,” Owensboro coach Jansen Locher said. “We need to play with a little more tempo than we did today. We have a big week ahead of us and we are excited about the challenge of playing two of the top teams in the region.”
Alyrica Hughes and Krystell Pappas each finished with 6 points for the Lady Devils.
OHS plays at home Monday against Breckinridge County before heading to Owensboro Catholic on Friday.

Christian Academy-Louisville 55, Owensboro Catholic 35
Owensboro Catholic has had a rough couple of nights at home as they fell to Christian Academy-Louisville on Saturday after being dealt their first loss of the year Friday against Breckinridge County.
The Lady Centurions of CAL built a big lead in the first half and carried that into the second as they took down Catholic 55-35.
Catholic didn’t have a double-digit scorer in the game but they again had every player scorer as freshman Hailee Johnson led the way with 7 points. Ally Maggard added 6 points for the Lady Aces.
OC plays Tuesday at home against Ohio County.
Hancock County 68, Trinity 48
The Trinity Lady Raiders were hit with their second loss in as many nights and their fourth-straight loss when they fell to Hancock County Saturday in Whitesville.
The Lady Hornets took the game 68-48 as it was the second-most points scored in a game this season by the Lady Raiders.
Cassidy Morris led the way for the Lady Raiders with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kenzie McDowell also finished in double digits with 11 points for Trinity.
Trinity plays at Todd County Central on Saturday before hosting Breckinridge County Feb. 9.
