Brescia duo grabs RSC Player of the Week honors

Shelton snags RSC men’s basketball Player of the Week for Brescia.

Brescia University sophomore Hayden Shelton averaged over 25 points per game over three contests to earn River States Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 18-24. 

A 6-2 guard from Utica, Ky., Shelton amassed 77 total points on the week and had a couple of 30-point games as the Bearcats went 2-1. He averaged 25.7 points, shot 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from long range (7 for 14). Sheldon also made 12 of 13 free throws. 

Despite 35 points from Shelton, Brescia lost at Ohio Christian. He followed that up with 32 points in a win over Welch and then 10 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes in another win over Welch. 

Brescia’s Moss reaches milestone, picks up RSC women’s basketball Player of the Week

Brescia (Ky.) University senior Cassidy Moss surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone with a huge game and thus was named River States Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 18-24. 

Moss, a 5-8 native of Marion, Ky., poured in 31 points in a victory over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg to reach the milestone. She made it a double-double with 10 rebounds as well as three steals and two assists. Moss connected on 11 of 15 field goals, made 2 of 3 from long range and was perfect from the foul line at 7 for 7.
