The Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers were able to get by Trevecca Nazarene Thursday afternoon and despite poor shooting, picked up their second win of the season.
KWC took down the Trojans 53-39 to move to 2-1 on the year as its last game was a loss to Hillsdale back on Dec. 19.
The Panthers shot 33.3% for the game and 23.8% from beyond the arc while the Trojans didn’t fair much better. Trevecca shot 28.8% from the field and a mere 15.4% from the 3-point line.
“Offensively, we didn’t find a balance between that interior presence and the shots we were taking,” he said. “I thought we were settling a little bit at certain times of game, definitely in the first half. Second half, we came out with some nice stints, there was some nice tempo. There were some nice moments.”
A trio of Panthers finished in double digits as they were led by Zach Hopewell’s 12 points. Jamil Wilson finished with 11 and Tre Cobbs added 10 with six made free throws in the game.
KWC led by as much as 23 in the second half but the Trojans battled back and cut it to 10 in the final few minutes then a final push by the Panthers gave them the victory going into Saturday’s matchup against Walsh.
