KWC women take down Panthers

Hot shooting put the Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball team back in the win column on Thursday night, taking down Ursuline College by a score of 87-58 in Pepper Pike, Ohio.  The 29 points mark the largest victory margin for the Panthers this season.

Wesleyan never looked back after opening the game with back-to-back three’s from Tahlia Walton and Shiya Hoosier.  The defense shined in the first quarter, holding Ursuline to just six points on 16.7% (2-12) shooting.  It is the fewest points that the Panthers have allowed in a single quarter all season.

Leah Richardson fueled an 11-0 run in the second, knocking back a pair of corner three’s.  Wesleyan only made three three point baskets in the second, but was able to take a commanding 48-23 lead to the break.

At the 7:37 mark of the third, Richardson drained another three, giving Wesleyan their first 30-point lead of the game.  Both team tallied 20 points in the third, giving the Panthers a 68-43 lead entering the final frame.

Midway through the fourth Kaylee Clifford put back a lay up to give the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 35.  Wesleyan outscored Ursuline 19-15 in the final frame en route to the 87-58 win.

Four Panthers scored in double figures in Emma Johnson (18), Leah Richardson (14), Shiya Hoosier (12) and Kaylee Clifford (11).  Clifford paced Wesleyan with six rebounds while Johnson grabbed five.

Jordyn BargaLily Miller, Hoosier and Richardson each dished out three assists on the night.  Barga led the way with three steals.

Wesleyan scored 34 points off of 27 Arrow turnovers.  The Panthers recorded 42 points in the paint and 30 on the fast break.

The Panthers remain on the road this weekend, heading to Vienna, W. Va. to take on Ohio Valley University on Saturday.
