The NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports appointed Great Midwest Athletic Conference SAAC President, Wiley Cain, as the new National SAAC representative to the committee, effective immediately.

The purpose of the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS) is to provide expertise and leadership to the Association in order to promote a healthy and safe environment for student-athletes through research, education, collaboration and policy development.

“When I came on to National SAAC, I saw this committee and was immediately drawn to it,” Cain. “Having experience with sports injuries and wanting to go down the orthopedics route in my career, made this the perfect opportunity for me. I am really excited to be the student-athlete voice in decisions about our health and well-being,” concluded Cain.

The association-wide committee is made up of 22 total members. Six positions are allocated for men, six for women and 10 unallocated. Members include athletics administrators, coaches, sports medicine staff, researchers, faculty and student-athletes.
