Tre Cobbs brings home G-MAC weekly honors

For the first time in his Panther career, Tre Cobbs has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week as annouced by the conference office on Monday.

Wesleyan picked up a pair of home wins this past week against Malone and Tiffin to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Cobbs averaged 24.5 points per game on over 65 percent shooting from the field.  On the week he averaged 3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1 steal per game.

The 6-0 guard poured in a career-high 30 points against Malone.  The 30 points is also a the best single-game mark in the G-MAC thus far this season.

Cobbs scored 30 points in 32 minutes against Malone as he made 13 of his 18 shots from the floor. He had three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals while making his lone try from deep.

The Panthers shot 66 percent as a team in a win against Tiffin as Cobbs led five Panthers in double-figures with 19 points. This time, he was 6-of-11 on his shot attempts and converted six free throws in 23 minutes of court time.

Through six games, Cobbs is currently second in the conference in scoring at 18.5 ppg only behind Walsh’s Darryl Straughter (21.8). He is also one of the most efficient, ranking fourth in field goal percentage (57.7) and knocks down his free throws at a 75 percent clip.

Wesleyan hits the road this weekend for a pair of G-MAC contests.  The Panthers will take on Ohio Valley on Saturday followed by Ohio Dominican on Monday.
