A couple of days after it was deemed canceled, the All “A” Classic State Tournament is back on with the finals remaining at Eastern Kentucky in Richmond but Owensboro Catholic now has a new opponent.
The All “A” met Thursday afternoon, via zoom, to decide what would need to be done to have the tournament. There was speculation the semi-finals and finals would be played at the Owensboro Sportscenter but the All “A” board went a different route.
The first two rounds will now be sectional rounds with the semi-finals and finals being March 5-6 at McBrayer Arena.
Catholic was scheduled to take on St. Henry in the opening round but with the sectional format, the Aces will take on the 4th Region champ in the Clinton County Bulldogs.
Clinton County is 14-2 this season and currently second in the 4th Region in RPI as they’re nearly a full point lower than the region’s top ranked team, Bowling Green.
The Bulldogs are led by Nick Delk and his 17.5 ppg while Chase Stines (11.4 ppg) and Nick Brown (10.6 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Stines (5.9 rpg) and Delk (5.8 rpg) led Clinton in rebounds.
The game doesn’t have a date yet but it has to be completed by Feb. 25. The game will be in Albany, about 165 miles southeast of Owensboro.
The quarterfinals will need to be completed by March 3 with the semifinals taking place on March 5. The boys final will be at 11:30 a.m. on March 6.
