The Brescia Bearcats claimed the top seed in the RSC Women’s Basketball Tournament after the randomized draw as Brescia made the most of their postseason opener Wednesday against IU Southeast.

The Bearcats took down Indiana University Southeast 68-62 and while it was just their second win of the year, it came at the right moment as they’ll now play the University of Rio Grande on Friday in the second round.

BU led after the first but IU Southeast led 31-24 at the break after it held Brescia to just five points in the second quarter. The Bearcats gained steam in the third and trailed by five points heading to the fourth.

Brescia erupted for 32 points in the final frame to take the game.

Cassidy Moss finished with a team-high 22 points for the Bearcats while Hailey Kendall added the games lone double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Prior to Wednesday, IU Southeast had beaten Brescia in both meetings this season.

The Bearcats now look to Friday when they take on Rio Grande.
