This is a story in a series on local high school athletes signing to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.

Apollo standout Parker Bates is taking his talents to Lindsey Wilson College next season as the Eagle senior will be a Blue Raider in the fall.

Bates helped first-year Eagle coach John Edge and the Apollo offense run for more than 1,800 yards last season.

How does it feel to finally know where you’re going to attend next year and to make it official?

It feels great to know that I’m finally moving to the next phase of my life and to have a place to call home in that phase.

Why did you choose the school you did?

I chose it because it reminded me a lot of Owensboro and the campus itself is big and nice but not so big that It’s gonna take me forever to go somewhere.

What stood out about the program and the coaches?

The program is the winningest program in the state being 72-10 and they’ve had the same head coach that whole time.

What are you going to study?

I’m going to study physical therapy.

What are you going to miss about your team and school?

I’m going to miss my fellow classmates and teammates. I’ve grown up with them and now I might not ever see some of them ever again. I’m also gonna miss the fun times and joking around with the team and the feeling of being part of like a second family.
