This is the first story in a series on local high school athletes signing to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.
Owensboro senior soccer player Rylee Cox will continue her career in town next season as she’s taking her talents down Frederica Street to Brescia University to become a Bearcat under BU coach Shaun Soderling.
Cox scored seven goals during her senior season that was cut short by Covid. In her career as a Lady Devil, Cox netted 22 goals.
How does it feel to finally know where you’re going to attend next year and to make it official?
To finally know where I am going to college is honestly a huge relief but also at the same time it is all becoming so real and happening so fast.
Why did you choose the school you did?
After considering many different schools in many different states, I can say that I believe I have made the best choice for myself.
What stood out about the program and the coaches?
What stood out to me the most is that Coach (Shaun) Soderling is wanting to build something so different within the team and grow something bigger than it has ever been.
What are you going to study?
I will be studying and pursuing a nursing degree then furthering into becoming a neonatal nurse.
What are you going to miss about your team and school?
After nine years of Owensboro soccer, I will miss everything about it. From long bus rides to tears from harsh practices and of course winning games with my teammates. My senior season will definitely be the most memorable, I broke a couple of records this past season by scoring on teams that Owensboro hasn’t scored on in a very long time.
