2019 record: 24-13 (Lost to Warren East in semi-state)
How does it feel to finally have your season starting soon?
This past year has been tough on everyone. I hated it for our seniors last year. For this year’s group experience the longest period we weren’t able to get together. We were super excited when we were able to begin fall workouts, then we were shut down after about two weeks and didn’t start up again until January. So, we’re approaching this season with a “Nothing For Granted” motto.
What’s your outlook for your team this season?
Even though we only have three players with any regular varsity action, I feel we have an “old team”. Many of our juniors would have started last year as sophomores. I believe this group has the ability to put some pressure on opposing defenses. Defensively, we should be consistent as we continue to develop our outfield play.
Who are your top returners (include year and position)?
Abby Newman, Sr., has been solid defensively at SS since her freshman year. Millie Roberts, power hitter, has been behind the plate since her eighth-grade year. Greysee Whiteker, Sr. pitcher, saw action her sophomore year until an injury shut her down. Kelsea Roby, utility player, will provide depth and leadership. We have 26 players on V/JV, which provides us with many options & depth.
Are there any newcomers that could make an impact this season?
Raylee Roby, So. pitcher, will share duties in the circle with Whiteker. Seana Leibfried, Jr. 2B, Hattie Newman, Jr. 3B, and Jessie Daniels, So. Utility Infielder will provide power at the plate.
What do you need to do to be successful this season?
We need to be fundamentally sound defensively, continue to develop our pitching staff as the season goes, and show discipline at the plate. If we can do these things, we should be able to compete with the teams on our extremely strong schedule.
