Daviess County’s CJ Snyder ended his career as a Panther Monday as the senior hit the lanes in singles competition and came away with a sixth-place finish at the Executive Strike & Spare in Louisville.
Snyder finished with a score of 1,044 to put him just behind Pleasure Ridge Park’s Mark Daniel Raggard’s score of 1,055 and just 25 points away from making the final four.
For Snyder, it was all about doing whatever he could to help his team.
“I was really going into state with the mindset of bowling the best I could and representing Daviess County,” he said.
In the team competition, the Panthers were seeded fourth but fell to Taylor County 3-2 in the opening round.
DC finished with 1,143 points.
Fellow 1st Region squad McCracken County won the team championship as the Mustangs beat DuPont Manual in the final. St. Xavier’s Aaron Camron won the individual championship when he beat Lee County’s Lance Morris in the final.
Snyder’s ultimate goal Monday was obviously a state championship and even though he didn’t achieve that goal, the Panther still valued the experience.
“In the end and in the moment no,” he said when asked if he was pleased with his finish. “But definitely as I went back and analyzed it all, I was happy with how I did.”
Now that his career is done, he said there are a couple things he’ll always remember.
“The supporting community at events and always being supported and cheered on,” he said. “That family feeling that the Panthers give off.”
Apollo sophomore Tyler Head finished with a final score of 455 after three games and finished 32nd.
The girl’s competition gets underway today with the Lady Panthers fielding a team while they also have Madilyn Phelps competing in singles competition.
