How long have you been an athletic trainer?
Almost two years.

How long have you been in the Owensboro area and why did you decide to come here?
I have lived in Owensboro for almost two years. I decided to move here for the job and I am so glad I did!

Why did you pursue athletic training as a career?
I knew that I wanted to help others and work in the medical field. I discovered athletic training in high school and fell in love with it. I knew that this was meant for me. I have the ability to work in the medical field, help others, and watch sports. What more could a girl ask for.

What do you enjoy most about being an athletic trainer?
I love the relationship and rapport that I get to have and build with my athletes. I love being there for them and cheering them on, both on and off the field/court. When you are able to watch an athlete play their first game back from an injury, knowing all the high and lows they have been through to get back to what they love and just see the joy on their face, what more could you ask for. It is so rewarding and is the reason why I love my job.

What is something most people don’t understand about your profession?
Athletic trainers are healthcare providers. We provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitative care. Athletic trainers may be primarily known for being at a sporting event but that is not the only place you can see an athletic trainer. Athletic trainers work in hospitals, police and fire departments, municipal departments, branches of the military, industrial settings, physical therapy offices, and performing arts. These are just a few of the multiple settings where athletic trainers work.

What is your advice for athletes when they are injured or have questions?
Don’t give up and keep looking ahead. You may not have the ability to change what happened to you but you do have the ability to change your mindset. Athletic trainers are here to help you so do not be afraid to ask for help.
