The Owensboro Catholic Aces didn’t waste any time in getting on the board Monday in the 3rd Region All “A” Classic Tournament semifinals as they cruised by Edmonson County 12-0 in four innings.
Catholic senior Finley Munsey was wheelin and dealin on the mound as allowed just one hit and struck out nine as he threw all four innings for the Aces.
“The biggest thing for him is just getting in the zone,” Catholic coach Derek Hibbs said. “He came in there pounding fast balls in the strike zone, didn’t mess around. No walks, no extended pitch counts … He’s got the velocity, he’s got the stuff. As long as he’s in the zone, he can pitch well just about anybody. That’s big for us.”
The Aces went up 4-0 after the second inning and added four runs in the third and fourth innings to take down the Wildcats.
Sam McFarland (2-4, 3B, 2 RBIs) and Braden Mundy (3-3, 3 RBIs, run) had multiple hits for the Aces while John Frey added three RBIs. Munsey also helped himself at the plate as he scored three times in the victory.
