BURGOS SELECTED AS RIVER STATES CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Junior Ruben Burgos Rubio has been selected as the River States Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the 20-21 season by the 10 coaches within the conference. This is a first for the Brescia Men’s Soccer Program in winning this particular award.
“Being recognized as defensive player of the year and first team of the conference proves me that any goal can be accomplished with the right mindset and hard work. I also would to thank my teammates and coach that have helped me achieve this award. I feel grateful for the recognition for the many hours and effort that I have put into this sport throughout my life.” said Burgos
Junior Goalkeeper Ruben Burgos Rubio, from Madrid, Spain, led the conference with 105 saves, a figure that ranks seventh in the NAIA. In 17 games, Burgos had a goals-against average of 2.03, 4 shutouts, 2 assists, and led the Bearcats to a 9-8-1 overall record. Burgos was also selected as conference player of the week three times for the 20-21 season. Ruben provided the game winning assist in the match against St. Mary’s of the Woods on September 23, 2020. He also had a game high 12 saves against Georgetown on February 25, 2021.
“I’m proud of Ruben and what he has been able to accomplish this season. This is an honor to be recognized by the fellow coaches within the conference. It truly is special for him, and this program as we continue to push forward in a positive direction” said coach Cameron Williams.
MEN’S SOCCER AWARDED RSC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
The 2020-21 All-River States Conference Men’s Soccer Teams & Awards have been selected, and they are announced here at RiverStatesConference.com. The awards were voted on by the 10 RSC men’s soccer head coaches.
The All-RSC First & Second Teams consist of 14 players each — four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders and two goalkeepers. Also named was the RSC Men’s Soccer Champions of Character Team.

Freshman Forward Luis Baldivieso, from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, was only 1 of only 3 freshman to make the all conference team. He placed in three statistical categories within the NAIA. He led the team with 11 goals and 2 assist, Shots per game 3.6, and Shots on goal per game 1.8. Luis also started and and played in 17 games.
Senior Defender Fabian Torres, from Clay, Kentucky, was selected as the Chmpaions of Character Award Recipient. He finishes his season having started and played in all 18 contest, and adding 1 goal and 3 assist.
The complete All-RSC First & Second Teams are posted below. The RSC Men’s Soccer Champions of Character Team recognized one member of each team who best represents the NAIA five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
“We are really happy for our players to receive those awards,” said BU head coach Cameron Williams. “I think it’s a reflection of their hard work and character, and I am happy to see that our fellow coaches recognized our players. Baldivieso, Burgos, and Torres had good seasons and were key players for us. Baldivieso making 2nd team as a freshman is a great accomplishment and well deserved. He had a really good season, and we know that he can even do better so it’s very promising for the future. Burgos, our goalkeeper earned 1st team, which shows his consistency throughout the season and stronghold in the net. Torres deserves his award as well for his character on and off the field. The RSC is a growing competitive conference, and it proves we are moving in the right direction. We are excited for fall 2021.”
