Despite the season being over for several months, seven local football players earned AP All-State honors Thursday with one Owensboro Red Devil earning First-Team All-State.

Owensboro senior Austin Gough earned first-team honors after a standout season at linebacker for the Class 5A runner-up. Gough finished with 112 tackles last season, including 41 solo and three tackles for loss. The Red Devil leader has a preferred walk-on role with the Kentucky Wildcats next season.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Gough said. “It’s a great feeling ending my high school career at the top of my personal game and being named all-state for it. I couldn’t have done it without my brothers and coaches out there. Very excited for the next chapter.”

Fellow Red Devil Gavin Wimsatt, a recent Rutgers commit, was named to the second-team after he threw for 2,070 yards with 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season.

Daviess County’s Jon Nalley was also named to the second-team as he was an anchor for the Panthers this season with DC rushing for more than 1,600 yards.

Four made honorable mention as Owensboro’s Treyvon Tinsley and Justin Millay, along with Apollo’s Logan Weedman and Parker Bates also earned postseason accolades.
