This is a story in a series on local high school athletes signing to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.
Owensboro Catholic’s Finley Munsey made his college decision official recently as he’ll be at Olney Central College next season with teammate Hunter Small.
As of May 17, Munsey was 6-0 on the mound with a 1.03 ERA to go with 47 strikeouts and just five earned runs on 18 hits. At the plate, Munsey is hitting .365 with two home runs, 27 RBIs and 29 runs. Munsey recently earned the win and homered in Catholic’s All “A” Classic State Tournament title win over Walton-Verona.
How does it feel to finally know where you’re going to attend next year and to make it official?
It feels good, I’m very thankful for the Olney coaching staff for believing in me and giving me a chance to play at the next level.
Why did you choose the school you did?
I chose Olney because I really liked the campus and Coach Conley, he has a good program up there and I felt that it was the best place for me to go athletically and academically.
What stood out about the program and the coaches?
What stood out to me was Coach Conley and the success he has had while he’s been there, he’s a great coach and gives kids the opportunity to play at the next level after JuCo. They play in one of the toughest conferences in JuCo and I’m looking forward to playing against great competition.
What are you going to study?
I am currently undecided.
What are you going to miss about your team and school?
The main thing I’ll miss about my team is the bonds I have made with all the players and coaches, I’ve known a lot of my teammates since a really young age so I will definitely miss playing with them after this year.
