Nine Panthers earn All-GMAC Honors, Wiley Cain earns Elite 23 Award

Nine players on the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team have earned a spot on the Great Midwest All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Three players on the Panthers’ defense earned Second Team honors while six other players gained recognition on the Third Team. Wiley Cain earned the G-MAC’s highest academic honor as he was awarded the Elite 23 Award.

The Great Midwest Elite 23 Award winner for football was quarterback Wiley Cain. Cain is also the conference representative for the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He is double majoring in Biology and Business Administration with a cumulative 3.99 GPA in the classroom. 

Jalen Humphrey, Jalen Wilson, and KiShawn Walker were named to the Second Team by the league’s head coaches. Humphrey led the Panthers’ defense this season with 44 tackles, including seven for a loss and five sacks. Additionally, he led the GMAC in sacks this season and was second overall in tackles-for-loss. Humphrey also forced one fumble.

Wilson was second on the team with 22 tackles, including one for a loss. He also broke up four passes on the year. Walker helped patrol the secondary this season making 13 tackles, breaking up three passes and making one interception.

Representing the Panthers’ offense on the Third Team were Landon Newman, Jatorian Dillard, Jayden Freeman, Peyton Peters, and Ian Francisco. On the defense, Shedrick Kirk also gets a Third Team nod. Newman was the team’s leading rusher on the year averaging over 34 yards per game, scoring one touchdown. Francisco anchored the Wesleyan offensive line helping the offense averaged 90 yards on the ground per game this season.

Dillard was a part of the Panthers one-two punch on the ground as he averaged 25 yards a game rushing while scoring one touchdown. Peters led the team in receiving making 15 catches in five games for a total of 140 yards. His 15 catches rank 10th overall in the GMAC this season. Freeman made eight receptions this season for 111 yards, including two touchdown passes.

Kirk made 19 tackles on the year, 14 solo stops. He also recorded three pass break-ups on the year.
