After an impressive career at Owensboro High School, Krystell Pappas will continue her volleyball career and study physical therapy at Utica College in New York.

“It feels amazing to finally be committed, it feels like a lot of weight lifted off your shoulders from all the hard work put in on the court and in the process of recruitment,” Pappas said. “This is something I have worked for since I started playing in 5th grade and knew I wanted to take this sport as far as I could. I guess you could say it really is a dream come true.”

Pappas said that the coaching staff went out of their way to make her feel important as a recruit and her future teammates were very interactive as well during the process.

“The coaches were so nice and helpful throughout my whole process of committing to a school,” Pappas said. “They would have meetings to check in with me and they really showed they cared. Also the girls on the team were very helpful too as they reached out and answered any questions I had.”

Playing in New York, along with the great connections she’d already created, made the decision fairly easy for Pappas.

“As I was narrowing down my options I got the chance to meet and talk with many great coaches and teams, but Utica just felt like the right one,” Pappas said. “I’ve always wanted to go pretty far and play, so the location of the school being in NY was also another great factor for me. It will be an exciting journey and a chance to grow as a person and athlete.”

In her senior season at Owensboro High School Pappas registered 200 assists, 163 digs, 100 kills and 52 aces. Pappas said that she will miss being a part of the volleyball community in Owensboro and that at the end of the day she will always be a Red Devil.

“I am going to miss Owensboro volleyball a lot, as it’s always been a second home to me,” Pappas. “I’ve played for Owensboro high school since I was in the 8th grade, so leaving a program you have grown up in isn’t easy. Not only will I miss my high school team, but I will also miss playing club volleyball for OVC & Bravo. Playing club is where I learned and grew the most, it was the driving force for where I am today. As for Owensboro high school, I will miss the atmosphere of OHS along with many of the great teachers and fellow students. Being a Red Devil is definitely something to be proud of.”
