RiverDawgs short-circuit Flash for 1st win of the year

After a tough loss in the season opener Friday, the Owensboro RiverDawgs bounced back Saturday when they beat the Henderson Flash 5-1 in their home opener at Independence Bank Field.

Neither team could find its offense early but it was the RiverDawgs that busted out of its slump with nine hits in the game as they scored all five runs in their final four at-bats.

Brock Lucas earned the win on the hill as he went 6.1 innings and struck out five while allowing one hit, one walk and one unearned run. Four RiverDawgs pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in the game.

Owensboro got on the board in the bottom of the fifth and led 2-0 heading to the sixth before the Flash scored their lone runof the game.

The RiverDawgs then scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to grab the win.

Steven Diaz led Owensboro as he went 2-4 with a home run, RBI and two runs in the win. Hayden Hirschvogel also had two hits as he went 2-3 with a run.

The RiverDawgs are back home today as they host the Muhlenberg County Stallions.
