Teams from all over the Commonwealth made their way to Western Kentucky for the Apollo Summer Slam this weekend, with local teams such as Owensboro, Apollo, Trinity and Daviess County competing.

Following pool play Friday, Owensboro, Apollo, Trinity and Daviess County all found themselves fighting for a chance to win their respective divisions.

Apollo and Trinity met in the second round of the Gold Division Playoffs, following their wins against Ohio County and Allen County.

Playing best of three series, the E-Gals defeated Trinity 25-16 & 25-15 to move on to the championship game.

However, Apollo was met by a tough Central Hardin team, falling in two sets at 25-19 and 25-13.

Owensboro also competed in the Gold Division and had a solid tournament, finishing with a 3-2 record overall.

Daviess County couldn’t be stopped in the Silver Division Playoffs, making its way to the championship game and walking away victorious.

The Panthers earned all three of their series wins, starting with the battle against Meade County that ended with them narrowly winning 15-5 in the final set.

Daviess County went on to handle Paducah in two sets 25-16, 25-19, before moving on to face off with Warren East.

In a battle for all the marbles, the Panthers snuck out a 27-26 win in the first set, before dominating the final set 25-7 for the championship win.

Madisonville fought its way to a championship victory in the Bronze Division Playoffs, going 3-0 on Saturday, having only won three sets by a margin of more than six.
