Apollo boys soccer scored in the final minute of play to defeat Webster County, while Daviess County defeated Henderson County in an offensive showcase.

Apollo vs. Webster County

Webster County nearly forced overtime against Apollo, but mass chaos in the box led to a rebound and an Eagles 4-3 win with less than a minute to play on Tuesday night.

Senior Harrison Bowman put Apollo on the board first, as he took an assist from junior Long Berly and found the back of the net in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Two goals from Webster County made it a 2-1 game, but a handball in the box later led to another goal for Apollo in the 41st minute, when Bowman came through once again.

Bowman’s second goal of the day found the back of the net to tie things at 2-2 going into the second half of play.

The Trojans were able to reclaim the lead at 3-2 early in the second half, but junior Teranse Twihenya scored in the 68th minute to knot things up at 3-3.

The remaining 12 minutes of play was a whirlwind with both teams trying to break the tie with overtime quickly approaching.

In the end it was Apollo who came through, as senior Ko Htoo who was able to control the ball after a rebound shot it into the back of the net to make it a 4-3 game with 30 seconds left to play.

This gave the Eagles the clutch victory and snapped its two-game winning streak. Apollo now sits at 8-6-1 overall on the season and will look to replicate its success when they host Grayson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Daviess County vs. Henderson County

There were goals galore in the Panthers and Colonels matchup, with Daviess County squeaking out a 6-4 win.

The Panthers got right to work out of the gates offensively, as senior Nick Vincent found the back of the net in the sixth minute to grab an early 1-0 lead.

Henderson County responded swiftly, knotting things up with a penalty kick goal in the 17th minute to tie things up at 1-1.

The Colonels earned a second penalty kick in the 31st minute and converted, adding another goal in the 32nd minute to make it a 3-1 game.

Daviess County was able to get another goal just before halftime thanks to sophomore Sam Glover scoring in the 37th minute.

This had the Panthers trailing 3-2 going into the second half, but Daviess County was determined to grab a comeback win.

It took the Panthers less than a minute into the second half to tie things up at 3-3, thanks to a goal from junior Sean Higgs.

It was Glover who scored his second goal of the day in the 65th minute that allowed the Panthers to gain their first lead of the day since 1-0.

A minute later Glover struck again, earning a hat trick and extending Daviess County’s lead to 5-3.

Henderson County scored in the 73rd minute to cut things to 5-4, but a late insurance goal in the 78th minute from senior Tanner Anderson secured a 6-4 win.

Daviess County’s win makes it five straight for them, as they will look to stay hot when they hit the road to take on Warren Central at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
