Apollo is looking to grab its first win in two weeks on Friday night when they face off against a 1-2 North Hardin at home.

The Eagles sit at 1-2 overall and are coming off of a tough road loss to Central Hardin, falling 43-13.

Junior quarterback Christian Combs was a bright spot in that game, throwing for 265 yards and a touchdown pass on 17-35 passing attempts.

The offense has shown glimpses, with sophomore running back Noah Rhinerson also proving to be a viable option in the backfield and as a receiver.

Apollo could have scored even more last week as well, but faltered in the redzone, allowing multiple goaline stands.

Head Coach John Edge said that they have the capabilities to be a strong offensive team as long as they are laser sharp on each and every down.

“If we come ready to play and make less mistakes, then we can win,” Edge said. “We have shot ourselves in the foot some this year.”

The defense is something they will have to shore up however, having given up around 43 points a game to opponents this season.

This will be a big challenge, as John Edge said that the team is extremely athletic, having sent five players to play at the University of Kentucky recently.

They will have to focus on North Hardin’s offense through the air, as Manie Wimberly has thrown for 257 yards and three touchdowns on 23-41 passing attempts in three games.

Shawn Rose and Queshan Davis have been his primary targets, tallying 99 and 86 yards respectively.

The Eagles will have some health issues to overcome as multiple players have been in and out of quarantine recently. Regardless, Edge said the team focused on getting better in every aspect of the game each day.

They are ready and primed to get in the win column, hoping to do it in front of the home crowd under the Friday night lights.

Apollo will look to improve to 2-2 when they take the gridiron and host North Hardin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
