Apollo is looking to carry its momentum from its second win of the season into its matchup with a Meade County team that will be playing its first game in two weeks.

The Eagles are coming off of a narrow victory, defeating North Hardin 10-7 thanks to a 36-yard field goal from senior kicker Harrison Bowman.

Junior quarterback Christian Combs led the way offensively last week, throwing for 130 yards and a touchdown on 11-17 passing attempts.

He connected with sophomore Noah Rhinerson for the lone touchdown of the game, with Rhinerson also earning 54 yards on three catches. Senior Evan Miller led the Apollo receiving core yardage wise, earning 68 yards on six catches.

Looking to carry the momentum from a nice win into this week, Head Coach John Edge said they’ve focused on converting on all offensive opportunities and not wearing the defense out.

“This week we emphasized on scoring in the red zone,” Edge said. “We have to get points and not leave the defense on the field.”

Defensively they are keying on Meade County’s dual threat quarterback who has posed a major offensive threat through the air and scrambling out of the pocket in its two games this season.

Parker is averaging about 89 yards per game passing, while averaging about 60 yards per game on the ground.

“Meade has a good QB in Kyle Parker,” Edge said. “He makes plays for them and runs the ball well. Nolan Woberly is his favorite target.”

Woberly leads the team in receptions with seven, while junior Jace Beavin leads the team in receiving yards at an average of 49 yards per game.

The Eagles are aiming to keep up its defensive prowess from last week, when they had their first game where they allowed less than at least 27 points.

Edge said that they have to be clicking on all cylinders to grab a nice road victory over the Green Wave on Friday night.

“[We can] not turn the ball over, [we can] not give up big plays [and] we have to take advantage of scoring opportunities,” Edge said.

Apollo will attempt to move to 3-2 overall when they hit the road to take on Meade County at 7 p.m.
